Every few weeks, I face the age-old dilemma when getting my nails done: Which color to choose? I contemplated letting someone else decide for me but was also leaning toward a classic white. However, my attention was soon captured by a trio of fiery red shades that sparked my curiosity. It reminded me of a TikTok video I stumbled upon some time ago, discussing something called the “Red Nail Theory.”
According to TikTok creator Robyn Delmonte, better known as @GirlBossTown, the Red Nail Theory posits that wearing a shade of red on your nails can make you more attractive to men. Supposedly, it’s a color that garners more compliments simply because it’s eye-catching. While it’s intriguing to hear about such a theory on TikTok, it turns out there’s some research backing up this unusual idea.
In her video, Robyn explains that the color red might be subconsciously associated with a person’s mother. Red is a ubiquitous color, and it could be one that our mothers frequently wore during our formative years. Consequently, we may unconsciously link this color to maternal figures in our lives. Psychologists confirm that this association can indeed vary based on individual childhood experiences.
